Songbox
When: Thursday & Friday Mornings

Song Box is a local independent musical play activity, serving York families since 1994. We offer small friendly sessions for 0-4 year olds and their parents/carers in many venues all over York. Siblings come to the same session. The price is per family, not per child.
All families are welcome. Our ethos is to allow every child to participate at their own level, and for everyone to be sensitive to the diverse needs and abilities of everyone in the room. We play very creatively and responsively with the children, our session leaders modelling how each activity can be enjoyed by everyone in their own way.
Our one hour sessions are carefully structured to introduce children and adults to all the fun of live musical play and the great benefits it can offer to children's physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive development. Song Box's founder, Thea Jacob MA(Oxon), also provides musical play training and workshops for City of York Council and other training providers across Yorkshire.
As well as our regular weekly sessions we have visits from musicians showing the children many types of instruments and we provide unique musical outings to many local attractions. Our sessions encourage families to enjoy music and singing where ever they are.
Song Box sessions at Millers Yard are lead on Thursdays by Carolyn and on Fridays by Sarah. Carolyn is an experienced teacher and has been a Song Box mum for 6 years. She joined Song Box as a session leader in 2009 and has particular interests in dance, arts, crafts and storytelling .
Sarah joined Song Box in 2001 bringing wide experience having been a nursery manager, childminder and playgroup helper. Her love of music, amateur dramatics and craft skills add to Song Box’s pool of creativity. Sarah leads sessions and is our part-time administrator.
