About Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that is statutorily regulated by the General Chiropractic Council. It specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions due to problems with joints, tendons, muscles and the nervous system. In particular, chiropractors understand that the nervous system controls the function of the body and interference to this system results in reduced ability of the body to coordinate, adapt and heal. Doctors of chiropractic focus on improving the function of the nervous system thereby helping people of all ages reduce pain, improve flexibility and posture, cope more easily with stresses of daily life and increase overall performance.
Who can benefit from Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is suitable for everyone and has shown great results in all age groups, from infants and children with problems like colic, asthma, recurrent ear infections, bed-wetting and ‘growing pains’ to the elderly suffering from arthritis and long-standing aches and pains.
The focus of Chiropractic is to identify the underlying cause of symptoms and to offer insight into lifestyle stressors that are responsible. Lifestyle stressors have physical (e.g. car accidents, minor falls), chemical (e.g. poor diet, smoking, reliance on medication) and mental (e.g. work/family stress) components - all of which have an impact on how the nervous system controls the body’s ability to heal and adapt to everyday activities. As such, Chiropractic care is tailored to the individual and offers safe and effective treatment for many symptoms including, but not limited to:
Neck, mid-back, low back pain
Headaches/migraines
Arm/Leg pain, numbness or tingling
Shoulder, elbow, wrist pain
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Hip, knee, ankle pain
Recurrent stiffness, general aches and pains
Sciatica
Spondylitis
In addition, many amateur and professional sports people use chiropractic care to optimise their nervous system function to improve their performance, as well as a form of injury prevention by early detection of non-symptomatic joint, muscle or nervous system dysfunction.
Why choose the Chiropractic Wellness Practice?
The Chiropractic Wellness Practice offers several aspects of patient care:
For people who are experiencing pain or other symptoms, difficulty in performing daily activities or general decrease in quality of life, the first step is to attempt to identify the cause of the problems and to explain how chiropractic will be able to help.
For people who are currently not experiencing symptoms or would like to prevent the return of previous problems, a thorough chiropractic consultation and examination can help to identify potential joint problems, muscle imbalances and nerve interference and offer advice on how to improve the function of the areas of imbalance or interference.
From babies to great grandparents, the aim of The Chiropractic Wellness Practice is to structure an appropriate treatment plan based on the individual’s desired outcome.
With the knowledge and understanding that the nervous system controls all aspects of the body and pain and other symptoms are only transmitted through approximately 10% of the nervous system, in addition to standard orthopaedic and neurological examination tests that address this, it is important to assess the function of the nervous system (the other 90%). The Chiropractic Wellness Practice is therefore proud to introduce state-of-the-art diagnostic technology certified by the Space Foundation which is co-founded by NASA. The technology which is not available anywhere else in Yorkshire was originally designed in the USA to measure changes in spinal muscles of astronauts before and after space flight. It utilises up to five distinct non-invasive and painless tests to analyse the function of the spine and nervous system. The information gathered helps the individual to understand their problem and symptoms (if present) and to choose their desired outcome goal from care. This can range from simple pain-relief to improvement in overall function, health and wellbeing.
